The Answers to All the Pole Dancing Questions I found on the internet

Am I too big to pole Dance?

Never! You’ll be fine. And my guess if you feel anything other than sexy and powerful we’ll help with that too!

“Is pole dancing easier if you’re skinny?” or “should I lose weight before I start pole dancing”

You have one life! Get stuck in! Don’t overthink this! Stop thinking about it, pick up the damn phone 92640080 and book a trial class!

How hard is beginner pole dancing?

We start you at the very beginning. We PRESUME that you can’t dance, can’t touch your toes or do a push up. That being said, like everything, to get better, you have to practice. For me, unlike any other sport or exercise I’d ever done, practicing was no issue cause it was SO MUCH FUN.

Is 25 too old to start pole dancing?

What? Someone actually asked this question? I get “am I too old to pole dance” or “is 50 too old to start pole dancing” but 25? COME ON! Anyway, the answer to every question, even “is 60 too old to pole dance?” is NO. Have you got a body? Do you like to have fun? Would you like to learn a new skill? Fab! Then it’s going to be GREAT for you!

Do you have to be strong to pole dance?

The crazy moves the teachers do, YES, they are super strong and flexible, but guess what? They weren’t born that way! They practiced and got better. They loved how that made them feel so they practiced some more. I digress, the answer is NO, we start you with the basics, you’ll be fine, you’ll build your strength, that’s the point!

How painful is pole dancing?

Look, I’m not going to lie, there are bruises sometimes, but by the time you’re starting to get them you’ll realise they are like a badge of honour! Cause you’ve done something new that your body isn’t used to. Nothing that a bit of arnica can’t help. When I did my first class I was like “this isn’t exercise, this is just FUN!” But then the next day I was struggling hanging my washing out “ah, so it WAS exercise!!  And I was kind of excited that I’d found something that I loved that actually was giving me a work out too. Keep in mind, I was pretty damn unfit when I started, for most people it’s fine.

How long does it take to learn pole dancing?

It’s like saying “how long does it take to learn Italian?” Or to play guitar? Depends how much you practice. What I CAN tell you is at the end of the first ten week beginners course you will:

  • Have made some new friends
  • Learnt a bunch of new moves
  • Be able to put all those moves into a short routine
  • Feel better about yourself
  • Be in awe of your teacher

What’s not to love? And PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!!

Can you pole dance if you’re not flexible?

So many of these questions have a theme don’t they? I wonder if the underlying reason is cause people are scared to give it a go? Don’t be! One life!  Maybe scared they’ll be judged?  You won’t! Maybe they really don’t know the answer. So the answer is yeah sure, lots of moves ARE easier when you’re flexible but you can still start, learn some moves, get motivated to GET more flexible. All pole moves have variations and like I’ve said before WE START YOU AT THE VERY BEGINNING, there’s no race to the top so you can take your time, practice as much as you can and you’ll see more results. We have practice sessions 7 days a week or do a flexibility or a splits class. We also have contortion classes, don’t be scared you can be a plank and still LOVE contortion classes

Can you be a pole dancer and not strip?

I reckon this question was from like 20 years ago. When we started Bobbi’s it I DID meet Bobbi in a strip club, she was a sdtripper, I wasn’t. Lots of our teachers and students are strippers, our style is sexy, but LOTS of our teachers and students are doctors, lawyers, artists, all sorts of things, ANYONE can pole dance. If you DO want to start stripping there’ll be lots of people you can ask about it at the studio.

Best pole studio in Sydney?

Bobbi’s Pole Studio and I’m not just saying that cause I own the joint, I believe it! We have the best teachers, routines, syllabus, and we were the first, we’ve had since 2004 to perfect it. Come in and do a trial class and see what you think, you’ll agree we’re Sydney’s best pole studio, hands down!

Does pole dancing help with anxiety? AKA What’s a good exercise to help with anxiety or stress? Is dancing good for anxiety?

It’s all the same, a resounding YES! I have SO MANY STUDENTS tell me how Bobbi’s Pole Studio changed their lives, made them happier and healthier. I see it ALL THE TIME, girls come in, often quite shy and trying to melt into the background and ten weeks later they walk in tall and confident, it’s AWESOME! Watch this!

Why is pole dancing so expensive?

First up, we do payment plans! So if money is an issue give us a buzz and we’ll sort something out for you. As for the reason:

Thousands of hours for teachers to learn the craft and ability to TEACH the craft (we get the best of the best)

The space is often expensive, poles and pole maintenance, giving exceptional service doesn’t come cheap. HOURS AND HOURS to pick songs, choreograph routines, write and upkeep syllabus’s, learn new moves.

It’s worth it! And I actually don’t think it’s that expensive, F45 is like $80 a week and you’d get 3 or 4 classes a week with us for that money so..,give it a go and see what you think.

Is Pole Dancing good for your body?

Many pole dancing manoeuvres require you to lift and hold your own body weight, so it’s ideal for building strength in your back muscles, biceps, triceps, and forearms. Even if you come to a class without much upper body strength, you’ll soon build it up through pole dancing. I think a huge benefit is how good pole dancing is for your mind. The link between healthy body and mind is indisputable, pole dancing has that little extra thing though, like the outcome is greater than the sum of it’s parts. Come do a trial class, you’ll see!

What are the different poles for pole dancing?

We use 38.1mm brass poles. Brass is great for grip. We LOVE our poles. You can also get 45mm and 50mm stainless steel, each to their own.

How do you lift your body on a pole?

Easily! After a LOT of practice! Our syllabus is designed to build you up and up and up till you can get it

Do you need strong arms for pole dancing?

It helps, but when you start we presume you aren’t strong at all. Doing pole dancing will make you WANT to get stronger.  For me, for the first time in my life I was exercising with purpose, cause I REALLY wanted to get a particular move and I was having FUN!

Do pole dancers lift weights?

Sure, some do. Some do pilates or yoga or go to the gym and some JUST pole dance. It’s ALL GOOD!

Does pole dancing give you muscles?

You will definitely build muscle and get fitter when doing pole dance but of course, being the best pole studio is Sydney, we’ll make sure you don’t bulk up if you don’t want to. Talk to your teacher about your specific pole goals. Your first pole goal might be “let’s go to the best pole studio in Sydney and see what all this fuss is about”! Can’t wait to meet you!

What is the hardest pole dance move?

It’s probably “the spatchcock” because of the flexibility and muscle involved. Come to Mr Pole Dance International or Miss Pole Dance Australia and see what YOU think is the hardest move!
