Bobbi’s Pole Studio – History Part 4

  1. THE DVD: We FINALLY did the instructional DVD that we planned ages before. We had no names for the moves and I suggested we name moves after ourselves. Bobbi had one (can’t remember what it was), “TheFrank” was a knee spin cause (Frank was Bobbi’s dad and he could do it), I had “The Vanessa”. There was “The Jamilla” and “The Maxi” and I can’t remember what Candices one was. The Jamilla obviously stuck, but does anyone remember “the vanessa”? It’s the front hook spin. Some pole dance place overseas wanted to make all the pole moves standardised and “The Vanessa” was lost *sad face* but not before a pole school in ETHIOPIA tagged my move “the vanessa” so I’ll take that! Ethiopia…what?? SO COOL!!

  1. THE VANESSA: We were doing 6 to 10 hens nights every Saturday. I was teaching a lot of them (thus my signature move haha) and so were Isabella and Candice. At that time, the “teacher show” at the end of the night was me doing a layback and an upside down v (woohoo, finally got them!) and I taught hens till I was 8 months pregnant in my little pirate costume. Fittest I’ve ever been.

  1. BABY BOBBI’S: We got an extra room at Castlereagh street “just for hens” (omg we did the odd bucks party too but I’ll be here forever if I tell everything) so…an extra room, 2 floors down became an extra class room of course, BABY BOBBI’S

  1. MIRANDA STUDIO…Bobbi lived in The Shire, it made sense! Paint! Truss! Poles! A mezzanine level? Um…flex? Strip? Sure! Hang on though….A FIREMANS POLE! So we had a little gate and installed a firemans pole (our “pole guy” was a fireman so…broke all building codes…whatever!) We still have the pole in Miranda, in the corner, can’t quite part with it….and there is a mezzanine there….but yeah, it doesn’t fit, we checked *sad*

  1. TEACHERS: Isabella was by now a teacher (after she won our first ever Amateur Night), also over the years: Amber, Daisy, Roxy, Sydney, Cleo, Ryder, Bailey Hart, Summer, Chilli, Daisy, Foxy, Sassy, Jedda, Gypsy, Paris, Cody, Porsche, Evie Jo, Mimi, Missii, Luna, Marie, Mulan, Billie Brooklyn, Lacey, Emerson, Sarah Jane, Diesel, Chris, Lola Grace, Lennox, Charlotte, Vixen, Miranda, Lucca, Missy, Ava, Gigi, Sofia, Azra, Astoria, David, Lulu, Tashy, Hennessy, KB and our very latest Misha! I’m sure I’ve forgotten a couple but seriously WHAT A STAR STUDDED LINE UP HUH?

  1. DAISY: deserves a special mention, I remember being at home and a teacher calling in sick and we’d NEVER cancelled a class but there was like 2 hours and no one could do it and I called Bobbi “ahhhh” and she was like “there’s this chick….” And Daisy to the rescue…she was a STUDENT and I’m not sure she’d even thought of becoming a teacher! She was coached over the phone, nailed it (Peach Pole Studio anyone? She’s a LEGEND!)

  1. MISS POLE moved from The Bourbon and Beefsteak in the Cross to La Montage in Leichhardt and then to The Enmore. In year 2 of MPDA, at La Montage, there was a teacher from our Perth studio who Kim said was really good, she pulled out an eagle (also never before seen), her routine went viral and Felix Cane was born! Felix was sooo good we thought nobody would enter our comp if she entered every year so we made a rule that the winner could only enter every second year. So year 4, Felix came back and pulled out the bloody spatchcock for the first time, RIDICULOUS!! Around this time franchises also opened in Singapore and Malaysia. There was one EPIC trip where we closed down a week and all the staff went to Singapore for their Miss Pole Dance Singapore competition. That was a crazy week!

  1. BATHURST: We decided to take the show on the road and Candice and Isabella, Sarah Jane and I hooked up a trailer to my commodore, loaded a portable pole on and spent the weekend in Bathurst teaching girls pole, strip and Burlesque, Candice was the instigator of much mischief. Also, I couldn’t park a trailer so every time we stopped we’d all have to get out and lift the trailer into the park, lucky they were all pole dancers! We also drank way too much (of course) and when we called for pizza and they said they’d stopped deliveries we said we’d answer the door in stripper gear, half an hour later, funnily enough pizza arrived!

  1. MOVING: We moved Miranda and the city studio within a year of each other to where we are now. In the city we just moved a block away so there was a lot of carrying pink things to Elizabeth Street. Sparx (who’d come from Denmark to train with Bobbi for a few months and ended up staying YEARS) decided to help students find the new studio with a series of spray painted high heels on the sidewalk between the studios.
